Ann Filemyr, Ph.D.
Ann Filemyr, Ph.D., is currently serving as Dean of the College of Contemporary Native Arts at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. Ann is also a poet, photographer, speaker and workshop leader. She had a twenty-year apprenticeship (formal training) with a mashkikikwe, a traditional herbal healer in the Anishinaabeg culture of the Great Lakes. Her workshops include traditional approaches to plant and earth-based medicines, women’s spirituality, creativity, and deepening self-awareness through writing and image-making. She has worked for 20 years in higher education as a professor and academic leader with a special interest in innovative curriculum design interweaving the arts with experiential learning, service learning, personal reflection, and strategies to promote creativity.
