Josephine Tejal Murray received her MFA in Sculpture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984, and graduated from Southwestern College in Counseling and Art Therapy in 2014. She is a counselor and art therapist at Engender Wellness in Albuquerque where she works with individuals, couples, and groups. Tejal works with people who are struggling with addiction, relationship problems, PTSD, depression, complicated grief, refugees from war torn areas, people going through change of life stages, and transgender issues.
Tejal worked as a full time artist for many years, and she founded The Ahimsa Yoga Center in Baltimore MD in 1994. She came to New Mexico in 2003 where she learned Ayurveda and Non Violent Communication. Tejal worked at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque teaching Non Violent Communication, yoga and creative writing to inmates from 2007-2014.
Tejal’s life journey has been guided by her fascination with creativity, healing and transformation. This journey lead her to embrace art making since a young child, a lifetime love of yoga, Ayurveda, Nonviolent Communication and finally to Counseling and Art Therapy where all of these threads weave together into a fulfilling integration of service and creativity.
