There will never be another ‘first client.’ The feeling is so exciting. All the preparation of the last two (and probably more) years was present at the moment I first shook my client’s hand. Of course, nerves are present too, but it felt so right being in this role. I stepped into my professional identity like putting on a beloved sweater when it’s chilly out. While I can’t say much about the experience due to confidentiality agreements, I can say this….I have no idea where this path is ultimately taking me. I don’t know what population I will work with, what state I will end up in, how long I will do this work for, or how my views will evolve 10 years from now. What I do know is that this moment marked a poignant shift from life before seeing clients to life after that client. Life just got a whole lot more serious, exciting, interesting, fulfilling, scary, mysterious, complicated, and inspiring!
