State by State Updates

The following licensing information is current as of November 20, 2024:

Southwestern College has determined that its curriculum meets the state educational requirements for licensure or certification in the following states.

• Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky (approved for art therapist licensure only), Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York*, Ohio, Oklahoma (Counseling Degree Only), Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming

Note 1: New York – Students in the ATCN or ATCP program can get a Creative Arts License.

Note 2: Additional coursework may sometimes be required for the following states due to minimum credits. Southwestern college works with the graduate to complete these if requested by these states: California, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio (for MA ATCN Program only), South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin.

Southwestern College has determined that its curriculum does not meet the state educational requirements for licensure or certification in the following states:

• Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, New York for Counseling.

• For Kentucky, a graduate of the Art Therapy/Counseling Program can obtain an art therapy license, but not a counseling license. A graduate of the Counseling Program cannot obtain a license in Kentucky.

Southwestern College has not made a determination that its curriculum meets the state educational requirements for licensure or certification in the following states. We are currently researching these states and will update them on a monthly basis.

• Connecticut, North Dakota, Oklahoma (Art Therapy/Counseling Degree only), South Dakota, West Virginia.
