B.A., Philosophy & Religion, Appalachian State University; M.Div., Emory University; M.A. Art Therapy/Counseling, Southwestern College
Seren is very happy to be back in Santa Fe and serving as an on-site Clinical Supervisor at Tierra Nueva Counseling Center and Adjunct Faculty member at Southwestern College. Most recently she has been teaching The History of Art Therapy, Art Therapy Techniques, and Practicum II: Art Therapy/Counseling with Groups, Couples, and Families. Seren has a passion for teaching and supervising interns and practicum students, as well as helping to create a very warm, welcoming, supportive and professional atmosphere for clients and student-therapists at Tierra Nueva.
During the summer months Seren is the Assistant Art Director for Creativity for Peace Camp, leading Israeli and Palestinian young women in art activities and personal reflections that support the vision of building a future based on compassion, reconciliation, and peace.
Seren has many years of experience working in home-based, outpatient, and private practice settings providing individual and family art therapy, counseling, play therapy, sand play, as well as crisis assessment and intervention. She also served as Assistant Coordinator of Southwestern Counseling Center for five years (2003-2008 at the previous location) before Tierra Nueva was conceived and manifested.
Seren developed, designed and taught ceramics classes for art therapy students at Southwestern College for seven years, including fundamentals of hand building and wheel throwing. She loves to share her passion for self expression through clay and her knowledge of basic ceramics techniques to use in a therapeutic setting. Creating a safe and supportive learning environment with opportunities for authentic and creative self expression, her approach to teaching ceramics is informed by her years of experience as an art therapist. Seren is the founder of Serendipideez Ceramics, and she especially loves to create playful, unique, one-of-a-kind coffee & tea mugs with designs inspired by archetypal or dream images.
Seren also has experience volunteering and performing at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, GA. She enjoys bringing puppet making as a learning tool and therapeutic technique to her students. Seren is also a painter, sculptor, and a metal/jewelry artist. In her free time, Seren enjoys hiking, cooking, and water aerobics.
