- New Earth Institute Overview
The New Earth Institute of Southwestern College houses our community programs. We offer free public lectures, an annual national conference, and seven professional Certificates.
Our Public Lecture Series takes place between September and June. We present between three and five public lectures each year on topics relevant to our alumni, healthcare providers and the general public. Recent topics have included animal-assisted therapies, eating disorders, wilderness therapy, astrology for therapists and related topics. Speakers are local professionals, alumni, faculty and regional thought leaders. Our students attend these public lectures, taking advantage of this unique series. Current lectures are available here.
The annual Transformation & Healing Conference celebrated its 38th year August 21 – 25, 2019. This year’s theme was “Numinous Dimensions of Consciousness.” Each year the conference features a day-long intensive with national or international leaders in emotional, mental and behavioral healthcare. The other four days offer a menu of workshops intended to be experiential and transformational. The conference has a theme built around the central keynote presentation and offers CEUs for licensed professionals. This year our keynote presenter was Eben Alexander, M.D., best-selling author of Proof of Heaven and Living in a Mindful Universe, along with his partner Karen Newell, founder of Sacred Acoustics.
Our seven certificate concentration programs are: Addictions, Abuse & Recovery, Applied Interpersonal Neurobiology, Children’s Mental Health, Ecotherapy, Human Sexuality, and Trauma Grief & Renewal.
