Nancy received her BA in Art from Southern Virginia University in 2010 and received her Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling from Southwestern College in 2018. Art has been an important component for Nancy in her studies and career. She first learned about Art Therapy while working at a Day Treatment in 2001 when she got a job as woodshop instructor. With this job she learned about how art and creativity helps children work through emotions, communication and build self-esteem. During her time at Southern Virginia University she spent a few months in Italy studying Renaissance Art and Photography which led her to switching her major from Liberal Arts to Art. Her focus for her senior project was mental health where she focused on multimedia and sculpture. She chose to pursue Art Therapy and Counseling at Southwestern College. She has used Art Therapy with her clients with a concentration with children in Treatment Foster Care and with adults with addictions and in Recovery. She is currently a Clinical Supervisor and IOP Coordinator at Tierra Nueva Counselling Center of Southwestern College where she continues to utilize Art Therapy with the Intensive Outpatient Program for Substance Abuse and provides supervision for Art Therapy and counseling Interns and Licensed Therapists. She is also pursuing her Doctorate in Visionary Practices and Regenerative Leadership with Southwestern College with a focus on addictions and recovery.
