Dr. Allen is an emergency medicine Family Nurse Practitioner. Her academic and professional background bridges the gap from acute care to preventative health, focusing on Nature-Based Healthcare. Her foundational experience is grounded in varied settings, including rural and community hospitals, international relief, wilderness, tropical medicine, flight nursing, trauma, and technical international wilderness guiding.
Dr. Allen earned her PhD in Mind-Body Medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Nutrition. Her dissertation research focused on nature-based healthcare as a social determinant for global health. She is also pursuing Functional Medicine certification with the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM).
For over 20 years, Dr. Allen facilitated and led team-building, skills-based, wilderness expeditions with the Colorado Outward Bound School. She encouraged and taught the importance of outdoor education, team-building, and technical skills as the building blocks and catalysts for personal and professional growth.
Dr. Allen advocates for the inter-relationships between our personal healthcare and the health of the environment. She believes one cannot separate the health and wellbeing of all life on the planet.
