The Graduate Assistantship (GA) program at Southwestern College is an opportunity for students to receive mentorship and develop professional skills by working in a small administrative role with the college. Assistantships are available for $3,600 to $,5400 and are typically awarded at the beginning of the fall quarter for the entire academic year.
The award amount is paid as a tuition discount OR students may opt to receive a small taxable stipend with the remainder of the award being distributed as a tuition discount. Graduate Assistants are expected to work 7.5 to 10 hours per week during each quarter. The award funds are distributed equally over the course of three to four quarters.
We ask that you complete the Graduate Assistantship application between February- March each year. Both online and on-ground students are welcome to apply.
Graduate Assistantship Qualifications
Students who apply for a Graduate Assistantship must have the following qualifications:
- Been accepted for graduate studies at Southwestern College
- Filed a FAFSA application
- Strong interpersonal communication and professional skills
- Ability to take initiative and able to work independently
Roles of a Graduate Assistantship
Graduate Assistants responsibilities will vary and may include the following:
- Peer Tutoring
- Peer Coaching
- Student Connections and Support Coordination (Online & On-ground- Art making, student groups events, potlucks, talent show, music night, etc)
- Enrollment and Outreach/Social Media Coordination
- Working at the SWC Quimby Library
- Working at Tierra Nueva Counseling center
- Development work on behalf of SWC
- Conducting research projects under supervision
- Support the Art Therapy/Counseling program by organizing art supplies, working in the gallery, and event coordination
