We have time during the week where students can participate in open art studio for artmaking and in addition we have a time around the noon hour where students can participate in a mindfulness practice in our spiritual practice room. These sessions may look different depending upon who is involved. Those who participate help to create the content and the experience. Meditation and prayer can be included in a mindfulness practice as well as the simple practice of focusing the mind and heart on specific topics such as – body awareness, compassion, forgiveness, clarity, healing, etc.
The spiritual practice room has shelves lined with photos and symbols of students, staff, and faculty’s spiritual expression. An image of Lady of Guadalupe stands next to an image of the Dalai Lama. Next to this is an image of White Buffalo Calf Woman who is next to an image of Christ, and so on. Because we have quite an open approach to spiritual expression, the spiritual practice room is a welcoming place for all paths to light and truth.
