colored pencils and pen on paper
For this project I pieced together several different images that came out of active imagination exercises. When I finished an active imagination drawing, I scanned it in to my computer then printed it out so I could isolate and cut out specific images that spoke to me. Once I had all my images I drew a background on a large piece of paper and began gluing down the images and coloring them in. Through the process of making this mandala I began to realize and accept my own awesomeness. In my final paper about my mandala I wrote: “I’ve wanted to know the Self that is at the core of my Being. For many years I’ve been trapped in my Ego, and for a good portion of these years I’ve wasted time hating myself. I now believe that the self I spent time hating was a false self, a persona others helped assign me. I played my role well. Like a silver screen, I accepted any image projected onto me. Since then, I have shed my silver screen skin and begun to show my true colors. Making my final mandala has helped me gain the confidence to be authentic.”
