Okay, so maybe not once a day, although that would be an awesome practice but at least once a week for 8 weeks or so. I loved getting to come to Seren’s Art Therapy Techniques class last quarter and make my 10-minute mandala with watercolors. This was a project I wanted to do for a long time and ideally would like to continue. Each class, I tried to focus on my heart center and what I was feeling and how to open it up.
Lately my intention has been about living in the flow and experiencing the abundance of joy. I was able to tap into this energy during this process of mandala making. This process showed me that I can really use art as a centering tool in just 10 minutes. All I need is my watercolors and a little bit of paper. One of my favorite parts of this process was using it as a check in.
One of the things I have realized about my own creative process is that I love making art with other people. I also love hearing and witnessing how others use materials, symbols and colors to express depth that is able to be articulated once drawn out.
I find it quite gratifying to reflect on my own process through a series of similar paintings done over a period of time.
So get out a CD and trace a circle onto paper and paint, glue, collage your own mandala a day (for 10 minutes) and see how it makes you feel! I for one, would love to know.
