Betsy Nordell, EdD is a scholar-practitioner with more than 25 years of teaching experience. Her wellreceived book, Avoiding Burnout: How Exemplary Teachers Find Fuel and Cultivate Success was
published by Rowman and Littlefield in 2021. She has created programming for and taught K-12
students, faculty and administrators, master’s and doctoral candidates, community college English
language learners, non-profit educators and leaders, international researchers, youth development
staff and administration, and corporate executives. In Spring 2025, Dr. Nordell will serve as a Visiting
Scholar in Education at Vietnam National University in Hanoi.
Dr. Nordell earned her BSBA in Management (Minors: Personnel Selection & Development;
Education) from Bucknell University. She spent seven years in the corporate sector before earning her
MSEd from Wheelock College and her Teaching and Learning doctorate from American International
College. Most recently, she completed the University of Massachusetts Teaching English to Speakers
of Other Languages (TESOL) Certification Program. Her research, publications, presentations, and
workshops have focused on the creation of optimal learning communities, adult social and emotional
learning, perception and bias, mindfulness and hope, and the power of positive relationships to
foster growth. Dr. Nordell works and lives on the ancestral land of the Wabanaki, Pocumtuc,
Pawtucket, and Massachusett People
