Wild Heart Gallery Exhibition
Art Therapy/Counseling student, Rebecca LaPera, is in a cohort of 25 people who are about to enter into the last phase of the Southwestern College graduate program – internship. She had a dream where she saw her classmates’ work from the past two years exhibited in the Wild Heart Gallery. Inspired by this dream, Rebecca reached out to Art Therapy/Counseling Program Chair, Deborah Schroder, and (former) Core Faculty Member, Heather Leigh, to ask if there was any possibility of curating such a show. The hope of celebrating and seeing everyone’s work one last time – during this “period of integration and professionalism” of practicum – was exciting.
The exhibition was green-lit to go up for two weeks before the upcoming Capstone installation. Half of Rebecca’s cohort were able to participate, though she wished everyone could have been a part of it. She felt that they all “learned as much through the art as through the curriculum… and changed so much together.”
Rebecca knows how “different the paths will be for everyone heading out” to internship. She says that,” we might not know the direction, but we want to make the dream a reality” after moving on from the educational experience at Southwestern College into the professional realm of treating patients. She sends her love to the class that will be going into internship in the forthcoming fall quarter.
This exhibition features the work of Nicole Beauregard, Amara Bedford, Alissa Blinder, Emily Boeschenstein, Maggie Boyle, Hillary Clausen, Briana Day, Monica Dick, Madge Duus, Rebecca LaPera, Yanice Rodriguez, Bridget Steed, and Andrea Twitchell.
