A team of four dedicated students – Katrina Robles, Emma Shahin, Danielle McDaniel, and Lori Lockhart – came together with a mission to inform the public about the powerful benefits of art therapy. They accomplished this by hosting a one-of-a-kind art therapy pop-up event in Austin, Texas. Their hard work in advertising, marketing, installation, and showcasing artwork paid off as every seat at Community Garden was filled. Participants were treated to a transformative experience, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to create art for themselves once again. The event was so impactful that some participants even expressed their intention to continue using the art therapy directive when they feel stuck.
During the event, the students facilitated an art directive called “scribble drawing,” developed by Florence Cane, which encourages participants to unleash their creativity through the exploration of unconscious imagery. This powerful exercise was met with enthusiasm and curiosity by attendees, contributing to the event’s mission of community healing and raising awareness about the benefits of art therapy.
Thanks to the overwhelming success of this first event, the team is thrilled to announce that they will be hosting more art therapy pop-ups around the city.
