Integrative, Holistic Development of Children’s Mental Health

This course explores safe and effective treatment options for mental health issues affecting children and families, including perspectives based in holistic medicine, the medical field, psychology and neuroscience.
Ethical Issues in Working with Children & Families
16 CEC contact hours or 2 credits
This course explores ethical issues, dilemmas, and opportunities that commonly arise when working with children and their parents or caregivers, including client rights, confidentiality, mandated reporting, interfacing with family court, and other community services, as well as scope of practice. Global human rights of children will also be addressed, with special attention to working with children from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Attachment, The Heart of Well-being
16 CEC contact hours or 2 credits
This course focuses on the different attachment styles that occur in children and how these manifest in behaviors that are seen in childhood. We will also focus on how they become more apparent in pre-teen, adolescent years.

This course covers gender identity and sexual orientation as two vital components of how we define ourselves. Issues related to messages and beliefs in the dominant culture, social values and family beliefs are explored in the context of impact on the developmental lifespan.
