Southwestern College surveys alumni one year after graduation to learn about their experiences with the program and employment post-graduation. It is administered annually to help the College determine the program’s strengths and areas needing improvement.
MA in Art Therapy & Counseling
- 86% of respondents are employed in art therapy, counseling or a closely related field.
- 86% of respondents say the clinical experiences (practicum/internship) adequately prepared them for their present position.
- 92% of respondents say the coursework helped them to distinguish among the therapeutic benefits of a variety of art making processes and media in order to choose effective interventions.
- 86% of respondents say the coursework and clinical experiences help them to acquire skills to interact effectively with clients.
MA in Counseling

Institutional Learning Outcome (ILO) Data
Southwestern College administers an Institutional Learning Outcome (ILO) survey with students at entry, midpoint (pre-practicum), and upon exiting the program. The survey assesses students’ perceptions of their proficiencies in each of the four Institutional Learning Outcomes. The following are the percentages of students who self-assessed applying-mastery of each learning outcome.
