Wild Heart Gallery
Monday, April 10th, 2017 Southwestern College’s Wild Heart Gallery hosted the first opening night gala of the quarter. Deb Schroder, Program Chair of the Art Therapy/Counseling Program, had this to say about the exhibition:
“Students in our Family Art Therapy/Counseling courses are asked to create Art-Based Genograms, in order to experience the power of this family of origin exploration. The art that they share is visually beautiful and overflowing with meaning that includes family strengths, beliefs, and often, deep sadness. As we sit with the joy and pain present in these art statements, we are all reminded of what very different layers of meanings that the word “family” brings up for each of us. How important to recognize the wild, vibrant variety of families, as one becomes an art therapist.”
The opening gala was an intimate event with warm conversation and sharing. As an audience member for this event, I was blown away by the depth of symbolism represented within the gallery and elucidated upon by the presenters.
