Emilah Dawn DeToro

Emilah Dawn DeToro, M.Ed., PCC

Emilah is excited to be serving as the Student and Career Services Director at Southwestern College. She sees her work at Southwestern as a natural integration of the last several decades of her personal and professional journey.

After graduating from Clarkson University with a B.S. in Management, Emilah worked in residential life, student affairs, and academic support services at SUNY College of Technology at Canton. She eventually became Director of Student Support Services there and completed an M.Ed. from St. Lawrence University.

Tiring of the intense winters in upstate New York and yearning for adventure, she traveled in Europe for a year, then landed at the University of Arizona (in Tucson) and enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Higher Education Administration. At the U of A, Emilah held a variety of graduate assistantships in student affairs and worked in the research department at the Program in Integrative Medicine as an administrator and qualitative researcher studying classical homeopathy.

During her time in Tucson, Emilah discovered yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, and started exploring her inner world. In 2004, after a head injury, Emilah started experiencing a more expansive spiritual connection to Source. She left behind her Ph.D aspirations completing all but the dissertation and moved to Albuquerque to study at the Ayurvedic Institute. In the decade that followed, she explored and integrated metaphysics, psychic and intuitive experiences, and energy healing modalities into her personal and professional life.

In 2010, Emilah became credentialed by the International Coach Federation as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC). She appreciates how coaching allows her to integrate her
intuitive skill and her passion for supporting others in personal and spiritual growth. She writes, “I’m passionate about helping people live in greater alignment with their soul’s calling. I truly believe that following your intuition and trusting what you know is the key to navigating challenges that arise in all aspects of your life. Living this way isn’t always easy, but it is rewarding.” She maintained a small intuitive life coaching and energy healing practice until 2020 when she re-enrolled at teh University of Arizona to complete her Ph.D. 

Her husband, Jacob Gotwals, is a 2015 graduate of Southwestern College’s Master’s in Counseling program. They, along with their two cats and two dogs, moved to Santa Fe, NM in January 2016, after 10 years in Albuquerque, NM. As an introverted, intellectually curious, highly sensitive person, Emilah has created a life that supports her personality, interests, and the values she holds dear. She looks forward to helping you do the same.
