Internship EXPERIENCES:
Internship in Elementary Schools

"My internship is divided between 12 hours at PMS Headstart, Mondays and Fridays from 7:30am to 1:30pm at Tierra Contenta and Manderfield Elementary. I am in different classrooms dealing with a vast amount of kids aged between 3 and 5, focusing on kids who need individual attention. At Tierra Contenta is one boy, 5 years old, who has a genetically-inherited neurological illness. He has no use of his arms and does not speak, but cognitively seems relatively intact. At Manderfield there are 140 kids and the director of the school directs me in which classroom to help out. There are indeed many different cases to deal with: aggressive, timid, obnoxious, provocative, defiant, needy, confused, bullying, and each takes a little bit of a different focus."
