The Big Decision

As most of you know I work in admissions at Southwestern College. I enjoy my position here primarily because I get to sit here and listen to people talk about their dreams and passions. Applying to graduate school is a big deal. For one thing…it ain’t cheap! It is a sizable investment that certainly is worthwhile because one is investing in a life profession. The investment not only “pays back’ for the individual…but of course in art therapy and counseling the graduate gets to “pay it forward” by sharing their knowledge and skill with people who really need it…and will most certainly benefit from it.

I love hearing about the dream….A young woman who decided to come to SWC back in high school when she first discovered art therapy and our school…another who wanted to become a therapist 25 years ago and instead chose the business world, but is now choosing her dream….a guy who retired from the military and wants to help his fellow veterans…another who was a “dot com” entrepreneur who wanted to create more meaning in her life.  I have heard so many stories. Many of the stories have to do with a dream or desire of wanting to help others in some way. It doesn’t get better than that does it!
