I love art therapy! I am fascinated about how art making can be such an amazing and efficient approach to therapy and healing. The art work here on campus is so inspiring. We usually have an art show going on in the AT Complex and it is incredible to see the variety of art coming from our students.Recently, one of our art therapy/counseling students – Harriet- shared her art in our exhibit hall. It consisted of watercolors, book art and bottles of colored water and the theme was “water”….and y’know it being so dry here in New Mexico right now…we dove into her images as though we were all swimming in a great river. It was great! The art shows are not necessarily part of a program requirement…they are just offered by individual students as a way of sharing with the community. In this case, Harriet had done all this art during her studies in art therapy which gave additional relevance and meaning to the show. Harriet came to us from New Jersey and had been working in real estate for many years. Now she will be an art therapist and will be returning to New Jersey for her internship soon.
