Step-by-step Process to Apply for a Federal Direct Loan

Please begin by applying for a PIN number on the Department of Education website at www.pin.ed.gov. The PIN number will be issued to you via e-mail within three working days. The PIN allows you to sign your FAFSA application electronically as well as the Master Promissory Note. Upon receipt of your PIN visit www.fafsa.ed.gov and submit your Federal Direct Loan application. You will be asked to provide them with our Federal School Code - 030761.

Please review your application and make any necessary changes and/or corrections. The Financial Aid Office will request the Student Application Report when you apply for a Federal Direct Loan. Upon acceptance as a student at Southwestern College, a Financial Aid Packet containing other information for you to review and complete will be sent to you.

For more information about the Federal Direct Loan Program, visit the website at www.studentaid.ed.gov for an on-line version of The Student Guide. You can also find additional information covering financial aid topics. You may call the United States Department of Education for assistance in completing the FAFSA application at 800-433-3243.
